For the inaugural year of the CantoMundo Poetry Prize, the series editors will consult with a special guest judge in selecting a winner from the group of finalists. This year's special guest judge is Aracelis Girmay

Aracelis Girmay is the author/illustrator of the collage-based picture book changing, changing, which was published by George Braziller in 2005. She has also written the poetry collections Teeth (Curbstone Press, 2007) and Kingdom Animalia (BOA Editions, 2011). Her most recent collection, the black maria, is forthcoming from BOA Editions in April 2016. Girmay has received grants and fellowships in support of her projects from the Cave Canem Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, NEA, Civitella Ranieri, and the Jerome Foundation, among other programs. She is on the faculty of Hampshire College's School for Interdisciplinary Arts and Drew University's low residency M.F.A. program.  In 2012, she served as faculty for the CantoMundo annual workshop.
